THE Stanborough Chorus met for their first rehearsal of the 2016-17 season to start practicing their Autumn programme.

Chair of the Stanborough Chorus Andrew Kinder said: ‘Everyone was in high spirits and good voice as we started practising our Autumn Season programme: Stanford’s “Songs of the Sea” and Andrew Carter’s “Horizons”.

‘In between these two, we managed to fit in some very much needed refreshment, including chocolate cake to celebrate a “significant” birthday for our esteemed Musical Director, Christopher Fletcher. The choir then delivered a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday” with our brilliant accompanist, Irina Kosogova, on piano.’

If you’re worried that you have missed your chance to get on board with the Stanborough Chorus and show off your vocal skills, you haven’t, there will be an open rehearsal on Monday, September 26, and everyone is invited.

Andrew continued: ‘If you’re worried that your vocal skills might not be up to scratch - don’t. I couldn’t sing a bass part before I joined the Stanborough - some say I still can’t! - but with a bit of practice and a lot of enthusiasm anything is possible!

‘I hope you’ve gathered by now that we’re a friendly, welcoming bunch so do come along and give us a try. Tea, coffee and cake will be available, of course!’

The Stanborough Chorus meet every Monday evening at 7.30pm at the Methodist Church at the top of Fore Street in Kingsbridge. You can find out more information about the choir on the website: www.stanboroughchorus.com.
