South Hams Newspapers has handed a cheque for more than £530 to the cancer charity Marie Curie.

The money was raised as South Hams Newspapers donate 20 per cent of the revenue raised through the four page Marie Curie advertising feature that appeared in the paper on February 23.

Connie Thomas, community fundraiser for Marie Curie, came into the office on Tuesday to pick up the cheque for £534.78 from advertisement sales executive Sam Jackson and said: “A huge thank you to everyone who helped raise this money. This provides three nights of care for someone in Kingsbridge.”

Jane Devonshire, advertisement manager at South Hams Newspapers, said: “Sam did a sterling job encouraging local advertisers to support this wonderful charity and at the same time promote their businesses to our readership.

“We’re very happy to support Marie Curie and look forward to doing it again next year.”

Sam added: “Its such a good cause, I was happy to help.”

Marie Curie are currently looking to recruit nurses. If you are a healthcare assistant or registered nurse, or would like to know how to get into the field, contact Connie on 01884 703535 or [email protected] and she can put you in touch with the right person.
