MRS H JARRATT, of Kenwith Drive, Kingsbridge, writes: I find it rather ironic that the wonderful response to emergency disaster appeals, for example the Nepal earthquake, has unintentionally resulted in reduced donations to smaller charities that do not have the resources, or the will, for mass advertising. Children in Distress has for the past 25 years loved and cared for many hundreds of disabled or terminally ill children in Romania. Last autumn I saw for myself some of the charity's wonderful centres and I cannot imagine what would happen to these beautiful children if the charity was forced to close down – soon – as the result of a huge loss of income from donations, which is its only source of income. Please help to support its mission if you can. To cure, sometimes; to help, often; to comfort, always.
