Saltstone Caring volunteers tackled a 10km cross country challenge filled with assault course obstacles, to raise money for the charity.

Fitness Instructor and Trustee for Saltstone Caring, Gill Whitmore put together a team called the ‘Saltstone Strollers’ to run the 2017 Mud and Sweat challenge at

Dart Country Park.

The gruelling track was completed by team members Sally Norsworthy, David Raeburn, Lisa Joynes, Natalie Stebner, Nikki Fothergill, Ali Lennon, Gilly Harris, Patricia Hitchens, Julie Morgan and Fiona and Ian Hughes.

The event is an off road running race with some natural and some man made obstacles with plenty of mud.

At the 5km marker, the runners aged between 30 and 71, squeezed through a dark narrow drain under a lane merging into cold running water and then continued to do the whole course again. The Strollers performed well with everyone completing the circuit safely and happily.

Team Leader, Gill said: “The aim was to raise money for Saltstone Caring who do so much locally for the lonely and the isolated.

“We hope that we also raised the profile of the charity who are very much in need of more volunteers. My grateful thanks go to the team and to their supporters, we are on the way to raising a much needed thousand pounds.”
