SALCOMBE Minibus held their annual cream tea and raffle earlier this month, with the residents of Woodcot opening their gardens to host the event.

The glorious weather allowed many visitors and locals to walk around the gardens, purchase plants, have a cream tea, enjoy the stunning views and possibly win a raffle prize.

Tim Mattocks, chairman of Salcombe Minibus and Salcombe citizen of the year, said: ‘This was the main annual fundraising event for the minibus.

‘We are lucky to have huge support from many local businesses who donate very worthwhile raffle prizes as well as produce to make the cream teas.

‘The Woodcot residents make the venue available and a small army of volunteer minibus supporters donate their time and culinary expertise to put the event together.

‘With a sprinkling of good luck for the weather, a good time is had by all.

‘For the third year in a row, it looks like we have broken all previous records and made just under £1,500 for the minibus.

‘The funds will be put to good use, as we are about to order a replacement bus for the current seven-year-old vehicle.

‘The new vehicle will continue to be used to help the senior citizens, frail and disabled residents of Salcombe with shopping trips and day excursions to enjoy the scenery of the South Hams.’

Tim added: ‘For some passengers the bus provides a lifeline and valuable opportunity to venture out and socialise with other people.

‘None of this would be possible without the funding, time and effort volunteered to support the charity.’
