SALCOMBE Art Club have announced their spring programme of classes, demonstrations and workshops.

The Loft Studio, as it is affectionately known, boasts a great selection of established local artists and tutors who will be running courses every day from 10am to 3.30pm, with an evening of oil painting on Tuesdays.

Some of the short courses and workshops being offered include ‘Developing Artistic Practice’ with Martin Brooks - a fine art tutor from Plymouth University, who will provide demonstration, instruction and one-to-one hands-on assistance for all levels of experience, from beginner to established practicing artists.

Caroline Barker will be running a ‘pocket book making’ workshop - just bring some luggage labels, old watercolour paintings or prints to cut-up and make mini-pictures. There is also an experienced printmakers group who meet, work and exchange experiences each week.

Longer courses include ‘Painting in Acrylics and Watercolour’ with Michael Hill - an eight-week course for mixed abilities, including beginners. Michael is a well-known Devon landscape artist who explores the techniques of watercolour and acrylic through demonstrations and one-to-one tuition.

Lively and encouraging tutor Ian Carr will be teaching ‘Understanding Colour in Oil & Acrylic’ - a course covering colour theory, colour mixing and the symbolic use of colour.

Well-known local tutor Jenny Johnson will also be teaching two classes: ‘The Enjoyment of Drawing’ - providing a different subject to be explored through the subtleties of pen, ink, charcoal, pencil, crayon and pastel. And ‘Watercolour and Mixed Media’ - embracing the exciting challenges of watercolour, with the addition of pen, crayon, pastel and collage.

Courses start on Tuesday, January 12, from 10am to 3.30pm, and new members are always welcome.
