A quiz night has raised nearly £3,200 to the Hope Cove Life Boat after a year of testing their knowledge at the pub.

Teams who take part in the Village Inn Quiz Night, held on Tuesdays out of season in Thurlestone and run by Quizmaster Mike Jones and his wife Brenda, have raised £3,188.50 and handed the cheque over to the lifeboat’s coxswain Dave Illingworth on Tuesday.

Chairman of the Hope Cove Life Boat, Graham Phillips, said: “Ever since our formation we have had tremendous support from the Thurlestone community, but in particular, The Thurlestone Hotel and the associated pub The Village Inn.

“Mike Jones does a wonderful job, alongside the pub staff in organising these quizzes, and once again we are indebted to them for their extremely generous contribution.

“They are all to be thanked, and the funds will be put to continued crew training and the acquisition of a newer and better launching system.”

Scott Woodall, manager of the Village Inn said: “We love holding our Quiz Nights on Tuesday evening and we must thank Quizmaster Mike and his wife Brenda for giving up their time to make it possible.

“It’s an added bonus that we get to support the Hope Cove Life Boat which provides an essential service to local residents and holidaymakers alike.”
