We have been sent photos of potholes that have been marked with spray paint and ’MEND IT!’ has been written on the road.

Nick Howard was walking his dog on Sunday morning when he spotted the ‘decoration’ of the potholes on West Alvington Hill and snapped a couple of photos.

Potholes are a routine feature on the South Hams’ roads, and nationally, with Department for Transport statistics show the spending on our road network by councils is at its lowest level in a decade at £1.87billion, down from £2.46billion in 2004-5.

The National Audit Office says that local government have had their central government funding has been halved in real terms since 2010, but the demand for services has continued to rise.

Cllr Rufus Gilbert said that West Alvington Hill was due to be resurfaced “later in the year” and he has asked for “further interim repairs”.
