SALCOMBE Town Council have reminded citizens of the town that they are still three councillors short of a full council.

At last week’s meeting, councillors discussed how they would go about filling these vacancies, and it was suggested that the problem might be down to how the town council is viewed by residents of the town.

Cllr Rob Wheeler said: ‘Perhaps we need to be more positive and upbeat about the work the council does. It’s not about power but about using influence to steer the town. It’s not about egos, nor about a couple of parking spaces, but about doing the best for the town.’

Town mayor Cllr Mike Fice added: ‘It would be god to give people an idea of the work the town council does - it isn’t just about consulting on planning applications for South Hams Council. We also have a number of assets to maintain, including Shadycombe Cemetery and the park and ride.’
