SALCOMBE Town Council is investigating making better use of the two properties they own in the town: the Council Hall on Market Street and Shadycombe Mortuary.

Town mayor Cllr Mike Fice explained: ‘All we’re doing at the moment is looking at our properties and and how they can be further utilised. We’ve setup a working group to look at the viability of other uses and we’re looking to create a space for the community. But it’s early days and we may find out it’s not a practical proposition.

‘A couple of years ago, the council had plans drawn up for the Council Hall. It has a huge roof space, and the thought process was to potentially put another floor in.

‘But personally I think that would be too expensive, but that’s for the public to decide. Whatever we end up doing, we’ll have to go the public - it’s their money after all.’
