THIS autumn, Overbeck’s near Salcombe will be inviting visitors to vote for their personal favourite in their ‘garden photographer of the year’ competition.

There were two themes for the photography competition – ‘the beauty of plants’ and ‘the secret life of a garden’ – with three age categories.

The overall winner, ‘Bamboo’ by Scott Macintyre, was chosen from the 16 and over category.

Scott comes from the Isle of Wight, and visited the garden in July. He received a Panasonic camera and a £10 National Trust voucher as his prize.

‘I was delighted to be chosen as the overall winner of the competition,’ said Scott. ‘I had been given a new camera for my birthday and was keen to try it out.’

The competition was judged by Philip Smith, the founder of the International Garden Photographer of the Year competition.

Philip is a trained photographer who regularly has work published in gardening magazines, books and newspapers.

Philip commented on the winning photo: ‘A superb shot with a dramatic composition well suited to the subject. The gleaming surfaces of the plants are very accurately exposed.’

The exhibition runs until Sunday, October 30. Opening times are 11am to 5pm (last entry 4.30pm) every day of the week.

Entry to the exhibition is included in the admission price to Overbeck’s garden and house.
