The people of Salcombe are being asked for their nominations for the town’s annual Citizen of the Year award.

Salcombe Town Council spokesman, Cllr Richard Whitfield said: “The Citizen of the Year is a prestigious award which is presented each year to a resident, or someone who works in the town, of Salcombe.

“Candidates will have given their time and energy, normally on a voluntary basis, to benefit the local community. There is no age barrier set for the recipient of the award.

“The winner of the award will receive a plaque and will be invited to a town council meeting or event where the commemorative plaque will be presented. In addition, his or her name will be added along with previous recipients to a commemorative display board which is hung in the Salcombe Library, Cliff House.”

The 2016 Citizen of the Year was awarded to Tim Mattocks, chair of the Salcombe Minibus for his instrumental work in providing the vital service for the past seven years.

Nominations are open until Friday, July 7 and application forms can be collected from Spar, Boddingtons and the town council offices, as well as downloaded from www.salcombetowncouncil.gov.uk.
