Local riding instructor Louise Sharpe and her partner Lee Wellington have come home with Supreme Champion In Hand and Supreme Reserve Champion In Hand.

Louise and Lee took their four-year-old Barfield’s Madison and their yearling Criafol Ella Blue to the National British Skewbald and Piebald Association Championships in Bedford. Both horses are half sisters by Lostock King of Hill, renowned for his “excellent trainable temperament and excellent floating action” according to Louise.

Lee, who showed Barnfield’s Madison in hand - meaning walking with the horse and not riding it - winning the Supreme Champion In Hand Horse, while Louise showed Criafol Ella Blue and took home the Supreme Reserve Champion In Hand Horse.

“We went head-to-head in the championship”, Louise explained, “and Lee won! It hasn’t sunk in yet.” Lee, who hails from a non-equestrian background, only started showing last year and has been “trained” by Louise.
