A coffee morning was deemed a “great success” after raising more than £1,020 for Macmillan.

As part of Macmillan’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ initiative, 200 people came along to support the cause at West Alvington Village Hall last Sunday.

Put on by Leanne Carr and her mum, the morning saw roughly 30 cakes supplied and about 50 raffle prizes donated by local businesses.

Dave Crunchy Carrot was there with his bouncy castle which was a huge hit with the youngsters, as was the cake decorating. Also providing entertainment were local musicians Ben Carr and Phil Kennerell who played their “soulful tunes” throughout the morning.

Local nurse, Jenna Cranch, demonstrated her hula hooping skills and showed willing volunteers how to do it too.

Organiser, Leanne Car, said: “We were delighted that so many people turned up to help out and enjoy the cake, live music and activities. A big thank you to everyone that came along to support Macmillan.

“Thanks also to the local businesses for the great raffle prizes donated. It was a really fun morning and we’ll definitely do another one next year.”

Macmillan runs the initiative in hopes of getting individuals to run a coffee morning in September to raise money for the charity, which has been providing support for people with cancer for more than 100 years.

Leanne holds the charity close to her heart because it helped her mum while she was undergoing treatment for cancer, and was “a great support”. Her mum was able to fight through it, and is now running the coffee morning with her.
