THE Kingsmen held their annual awards evening at the Crabshell Inn, Kingsbridge, where the group were founded a quarter century before.
The evening was hosted by chairman Dave Griffiths and musical director, Honorary Life President and Founder Roy Hann.
The Kingsmen ’Barbershopper of the Year’ award, which is voted for by all the members, was won by John Morris and presented to him by Roy Hann. John also won the ’Harmony Award’ for the club member who is deemed most helpful to newcomers, an award that is voted for by new members.
John’s wife Jan won the ’Supporter of the Year’ Rose Bowl award, voted for by the whole chorus, and she was ‘delighted’ to win it.
The other main award winners were ’Director’s Award’, for special endeavour and commitment, was awarded to a newcomer to the chorus, Ian Wooler, baritone. The ’Jack Nation Award’, awarded to that person deemed to epitomise barbershop and all it stands for, went to Allan Martin, club secretary.
Finally, 25 year badges were presented to Roy Hann, music director, Dave Griffiths, chairman, John Tyler, Graham Palmer, Andrew Vaughan and Colin Saul. Steve Hancock received his 20 year badge.
