MORE than £2,700 was raised in Kingsbridge during Christian Aid Week in May.
The fundraising effort involved all the main churches in the town, including the Methodist Church, St Thomas’s, St Edmund’s, the Family Church and the Catholic Church.
More than 30 people collected money throughout the town, with £1,150 being raised from the supermarkets, and £1,561 through door-to-door collections.
Christian Aid works in around 50 countries across the world, and was founded in the aftermath of the Second World War to support refugees.
Christian Aid’s vision is to see an end to poverty. They describe poverty as an ‘outrage against humanity. It robs people of dignity, freedom and hope, of power over their own lives.’
The charity works to eradicate the cause of poverty, striving to achieve equality, dignity and freedom for all, regardless of faith or nationality.
Lawrence Townsend, the local representative for Christian Aid said: ‘The town’s generosity this year will help poor families around the world to work their way to freedom from grinding poverty.
‘Our community has donated £2,711 to help other communities to build themselves a brighter tomorrow, free from poverty.
‘Thank you all so very much.’
