TIME has been standing still in Kingsbridge once again, as the Old Town Hall clock continues to show two minutes past twelve for the second week.
A spokesperson for Kingsbridge Feoffees, who maintain the clock on behalf of the people of Kingsbridge, explained: ‘We had been experiencing ongoing problems with the clock and called in the company who carry out routine servicing to make an inspection.
‘They found that, probably due to the high winds, the gravity legs had been bent and the centre collar had become loose, therefore not allowing the escapement to work correctly.
‘They removed damaged parts and are currently carrying out repairs. When complete they will return to us and Mr Donovan, the chairman of the charity, will refit and reset the clock.
‘The company that we use for servicing and repairs are Smith of Derby, and they have been serving the horological community since 1856.’
