THE Men’s Shed movement in Kingsbridge is gathering steam, but they are now looking for a suitable venue to hold their meetings.

There has been significant interest in the group, with new members joining and much anticipation about the prospect of finding a workshop space to share skills and work with like-minded people.

Trish Warren, communities activities manager of Age UK Devon, has requested for help from the the community of Kingsbridge in finding a suitable venue for the ‘shedders’.

Trish said: ‘Sheds come in all different guises, shapes and sizes. Some are situated in porta-cabins, garages, available spaces in business units and charity shops.

‘There is even a bus that has been set up as a Men’s Shed and travels around the different towns and villages for people to access and enjoy!

‘The main requirements would be the space, utilities, accessibility and locality of premises.’

A Men’s Shed is a space where members can share the tools and resources to work on projects of their own choosing, at their own pace, in a safe, friendly and inclusive venue.

They are places of skill-sharing and informal learning, of individual pursuits and community projects, of purpose, achievement and social interaction.

Activities usually involve making or mending in wood, but may include metalworking, bike repair, gardening, electronics, tool renovation, boat renovation, model engineering or even building a car!

Whichever activities are pursued, the essence is not the building, but the network of relationships between the members.
