KINGSBRIDGE Estuary Rotary Club presented a cheque to the Quayside Judo Club this month.

The money will contribute towards black belt assistant coach Samuel Westlake qualifying as a full level two judo coach, which costs several hundred pounds.

Mr Westlake said: ‘I’ve been active in judo since the age of seven, winning the British Schools Judo Championships in my teens, and running the Durham University team while at university.

‘A level two coaching qualification is a way of putting something back into judo, but it isn’t cheap - there’s the £425 course fee, plus travel to Bath over two weekends.

‘The donation from Kingsbridge Estuary Rotary Club will make a big difference.’

For those interested in judo, the club meets on Thursdays at 6pm during term time, at Kingsbridge Community College.

Each month, Kingsbridge Estuary Rotary makes a donation of £250 to a local school, organisation, or individual judged from applications received.

Applications can be made via the website www.estuaryrotary.org.uk.
