How is it that our district council can spend so much money on hiring a consultant who comes up with a ridiculous scheme that will doubtless benefit property developers and speculative holiday-home owners while penalising our town by reducing parking spaces and diminishing the very best of its existing public spaces, ie the quay as it is at present.
Agreed, the public toilets need to be moved from their present position, and maybe some refinement to the bus station, but the development of the quayside is ridiculous.
The winners will be fat-cat landlords/owners from outside the area, certainly not anyone local.
We do not need more retail outlets when there are so many empty shops, and I believe more to come, in Fore Street. There is only so much ice-cream to be purchased and eaten and I believe existing outlets cater very well.
Our tourist information centre is attractive, well presented and in the right place.
Our bandstand is also ideally situated and the open space excellent for public gatherings.
The use of the car park during Fair Week seems to work well also.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and please stop spending our money on unnecessary consultancy fees. Perhaps spend it on repairing the quay wall instead.
