WITH just three weeks until the Crabshell Quay Regatta on July 31, now is the time to apply for paddling or rowing events.
This year sees the Backward Rowing event elevated to World Championship status. For the last four years Brian Stephens has won this race and has the medals to prove it, but this year he will face stiff competition from seven other rowers who will be equally determined to be a world champion.
Kingsbridge Estuary Boat Club has donated a glass trophy to be presented to the first ‘World Champion Backward Rower’.
Information leaflets and application entry forms can be picked up from Kingsbridge Information Centre or the Crabshell Inn. Full information about the regatta, including rules for the backward rowing competition, can be found at www.picfix.co.uk and you can download and print off an application form from there too. Completed applications should be handed in at the Crabshell or KIC.
As there is a limited number of places in each event, get your application in early. Applications will be considered on a first come, first served basis.
But that’s not all. There will be other attractions. Some might wish to live out their fantasy as a pirate, while in case it’s hot and sunny, don’t go to the seaside, come to the Crabbie where there will be a pop-up beach for the day - kids only- as well as food, a beer tent, a huge raffle and tombola, not to mention greasy pole and much more.
Profits made from Kingsbridge Estuary Boat Club stalls will go to the Regatta’s chosen charity, the Kingsbridge Triangle Centre.
