The Friends of South Hams Hospital group is donating £150,000 for the purchase of a new digital X-ray machine at the hospital.

The new service is now ­available for patients referred by their GPs, the minor injuries unit or elsewhere, which should avoid unnecessary visits to the hospitals at Derriford or Torbay.

Advantages of digital radio-graphy include more accurate imaging, the direct transfer of electronic images to the hospital consultant and less radiation for patients and staff.
