DEMENTIA Matters - a free event discussing how to make the world more inclusive for people living with dementia - will be taking place in Kingsbridge on Thursday, April 28.
This is a great chance to hear about the local support available for people living with dementia and their carers. And to discuss ideas and opportunities for making Kingsbridge and the surrounding parishes more dementia-friendly.
There is a great selection of guest speakers, including Dr Mottram, a GP partner from Norton Brook Medical Centre, local representatives from the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Support Service, Judy Snape from Kingsbridge Library and Dementia Champion and Chairperson from Ivybridge Dementia Friendly Community, Leah Parsons.
The idea came about following one of the ‘Kingsbridge Caring Alliance’ meetings. The topic of dementia in the community, and general awareness amongst the public kept cropping up, which quickly led to the suggestion of organising an awareness event as a starting point.
The hope is that this will engage local people, bring a range of people together and inspire people to help their communities become dementia-friendly. It could be the start of a local Dementia Alliance.
The South Hams CVS have organised this event alongside assistance from the Dementia Friendly Communities representative at Devon County Council.
With the support from county councillor Julian Brazil together with a variety of local organisations, this evening is set to be really promising and inspiring.
Places are booking up fast so please remember to book a place if you would like to come along by emailing [email protected] or phoning 01803 862266.
The event takes place at the Age Concern building in Quay House, Kingsbridge, on Thursday, April 28, between 7pm and 9pm.
