A British family is fundraising for specialist treatment for a mum-of-four who fell into a life-threatening coma after an asthma attack in Dubai.
Filmmaker Jonathan Ali Khan, 58, has made a public appeal from the bedside of wife Jody Ann, 56, who is in a critical condition after her brain was starved of oxygen for 45 minutes.
Jody Ann, who moved to Dubai 12 years ago, suffered an asthma-induced seizure followed by cardiac arrest on June 29 - and has spent the last 14 days in a deep coma.
The family, from Kingsbridge, Devon, said that Jody doesn’t have medical insurance and there is uncertainty over whether the hospital will continue her treatment.
They are hoping to raise more than £16,000 to fly her for specialist care in the US or Switzerland.
Jonathan said that despite being told Jody only has a one per cent chance of recovery - it is enough “to keep on believing” as he can "still feel the energy around her".
Jody Ann’s sister-in-law, Kim Richards, said: “Although hospital staff have been helpful, they are just keeping her alive.
"We’re looking for a specialist somewhere who works with regenerating brain cells and brain activity.”
A crowdfunding page created by Kim has so far raised more than £5,900.
The Foreign Office has been contacted for comment.
