FORMER Kingsbridge Community College pupil, Jennifer-Anne Crowther has been entered into the annual Association of Photography student awards.

Jennifer recently graduated with a BA (Hons) degree in photography, and is currently studying for an MA at Plymouth College of Art.

It is the AOP’s 32nd Photography Awards, and many aspiring photographers have built their careers off the back of winning an AOP award.

It can provide excellent exposure and future career opportunities.

Jennifer entered along with thousands of other graduates across the country, and successfully made it through to the finals within three categories: ‘people’, ‘places’ and ‘things’.

Jennifer said: ‘I have lived in Kingsbridge and the surrounding area all my life and was always most enthusiastic about my art and English classes at KCC.

‘I have always had an interest in storytelling but decided to put my writing on the back-burner for a while and concentrate on art.

Jennifer continued: ‘Photography become my passion because it is another form of storytelling, it becomes a visual narrative accessible to everyone depending on their viewpoint and experiences.

‘Growing up in a rural area, I have always taken inspiration from nature—focusing on the smaller elements of the bigger picture. Devon is a wonderful place to be inspired and country walks are often the inspiration and starting point for my initial ideas.’

Jennifer added: ‘I use photography as a platform to create contemplative spaces for viewers; sometimes hopeful, sometimes unsettling but always with the intention of provoking further questions for each individual about our relationship to time, memory and our everyday lives.’

Jennifer’s work will be on display at the Print Space gallery in London until Tuesday, August 9.
