A flea market is being held in the market hall as “talented people need showcasing” in the South Hams.

Kerry Brown wanted to help showcase the products produced locally by local people and has therefore organised regular ‘flea markets’ in Kingsbridge, with a ‘flea, craft and country’ theme.

Kerry said: “I’m hoping to do the markets quarterly, or thereabouts, throughout the next year, depending on the response to them. There is so much lovely stuff around and lots of talented people, it needs showcasing.

“Most can’t afford the rents on a shop or a space, and the high streets are dying thanks to supermarkets and the like, this will be a way to get their products out there.”

The first market will be held tomorrow, Saturday, October 27, with the next taking place on Monday, November 19, in the Market Hall, Fore Street, Kingsbridge.

There will be antiques sellers, including Maureen Hayward, who used to have a shop on Church Street with her late husband, people selling bric-a-brac, used but tasteful furniture, clothing, art, crafts, vintage and modern dress and precious metal jewellery, Karen Fredricks and her sea-glass art, crafts made from driftwood and shells, and her own children’s books.

Ashleigh Roberts, Marlo and Maise, will have her handmade bows, button frames and paper cuts, Maureen Illingworth will have her pies, quiches and cakes, and Rob Van Es will have his clocks.

If you’re looking for something truly unique, especially with Halloween just around the corner, Chloe Hill will be there with her handmade ‘Nutter Creations’, very intricate designs and sculptures created using carved walnuts, including sugar skulls and Día de los Muertos festival- inspired designs.

There will also be handmade lavender bags mad from vintage, hand-embroidered cloth, and sourced and made in Kingsbridge, along with vintage magazines and postcards.

There will be around 20 stalls set up in the Market Hall from 8.30am to 4pm.
