Written by Ross Purdy and directed by James Osben, ‘Me Time’ premiered in Dartington last November to rave reviews (read on for a few examples). The Lesser Spotted Theatre Company decided to take it on tour, and will also be performing at the Exeter Barnfield Theatre on 15th April and Brixham Theatre on 21st April.
What’s it all about?
Sisters Amy and Scarlett need some headspace to make some big decisions. So when their mother Judy surprises them with a luxury spa weekend, you might imagine they’d be thrilled.
But you haven’t met their mother.
In the claustrophobic environment of a remote hotel, Judy’s domineering ways threaten to derail her daughters’ efforts to get their chaotic lives back on track.
‘Me Time’ is an all-too relatable comedy with a healthy dollop of farce, which touches on themes of parental narcissism, generational conflict and intimate waxing.
The play features Gina Carter, Sally Feetenby, Sarah Montague and Clare Purdy.
‘A masterclass of writing and acting’
Here’s what members of the audience made of ‘Me Time’ in Dartington.
‘In the great tradition of British comedy it made me laugh out loud, wince and think deep thoughts all at the same time’ (Alison Seldon)
‘[F]un, professional and brilliantly acted from start to finish’ (Penny Noble)
‘This a joyous, fabulously written, brilliantly acted ensemble piece that deserves to be seen and applauded to the ends of the earth’ (Max Brandt)
‘Every minute was expertly crafted and not a word was wasted, which allowed the actors to show off their considerable skills. Brilliantly observed and acted, I would love to see this again’ (Naomi Ziewe-Palmer)
‘Not only was the acting spot-on, but the writing was superb. It alternately had us in stitches and fuming; there were times I had to stop myself from shouting out and intervening!’ (David French)
‘A comedy acting and writing masterclass. Some brilliant one liners. Still giggling at the work outs now’ (Minna Gibbs-Nichols)
