PUPILS and teachers from Kingsbridge Community College travelled to Stationers’ Hall in the City of London last week for the Shine School Media Awards.

They joined more than 130 secondary school children and teachers from 28 schools for the awards ceremony, supported by the Stationers’ Charitable Foundation.

Kingsbridge Community College entered their online magazine ‘Abridged’ - winning best front cover, best original photograph and they were highly commended in the best online category.

The National Council for the Training of Journalists also awarded four exceptional students a prize of an online training module - with Miranda Luckhurst and Lily Bex from KCC being awarded this special prize.

The team behind ‘Abridged’ magazine were: editors Isabelle Speciale and Haseebah Asharaf, design team Lily Bex and Miranda Luckhurst, with contributions from Aimee Prescott, Celestine Stilwell, Emma Flintham, Kit Hughes-Johnson, Meg Niblett and Julia Farkas.

This year, new Mayor of London Sadiq Khan gave his full support to the awards, sending his ‘best wishes and congratulations to all students taking part.’

A spokesperson for KCC said: ‘They should be congratulated for producing a very creative and professional magazine that has been recognised at a national level.’
