Kingsbridge Community College students celebrated success on Thursday morning, with a 99 per cent pass rate.

Sixth Form students arrived at KCC on Thursday morning, nervous about opening the envelopes that held the results of the last two years of work.

A KCC representative said: “2017 has been another year of national change for school examinations and we have several more years to go before the present governments programme of reforms is complete.

“In this context it is difficult to compare this year’s students results with that of previous years due to so many subjects now following new and more challenging syllabuses however the college is delighted that, despite the increased rigour, results are an improvement on the successes of 2016 with 56 per cent of students achieving grades between an A* and B. “A stunning 30 per cent were either an A* or A grade, above the national figure of 26.3 per cent.”

Will Strachan achieved gained three “highly-deserved” A* grades in the challenging subjects of Chemistry, Mathematics and Further Mathematics and an A grade in Physics and is going on to read Mathematics at Oxford.

Jack Pattison will be studying Maths at Bath as a result of achieving an A* in Mathematics, an A in Further Maths and an A in Physics. Eli Stewart also gained an A* in Maths along with A grades in Chemistry and Physics.Elspeth Spence successfully gained a place at Cambridge, studying Modern and Medieval Languages, following her A-Level results where she gained three A grades in English, Spanish and French.

Lucy Philbedge gained an A* in English Literature and two A grades in Drama and Geography. She plans to go on to read geography at Exeter. Zoe Allen achieved A* grades in Art & Design and Philosophy and A grades in both English Language and English Literature and will also be joining Exeter reading English.

Jacob Collinson achieved A* grades in Geography and Maths along with an A grade in Physics helping him to gain a place at Bath reading Mechanical Engineering. Tallulah Dark picked up a well-deserved A* in Film Studies, an A in Media Studies and a B in Art & Design and Emma Flintham gained two A* grades to secure her place at Falmouth studying Fine Art.

Elinor Jones is now preparing to study Neuroscience at Exeter following her success in achieving an A* in both Biology and English Language and an A grade in Chemistry, Oliver Hill achieved three A grades in Chemistry, Maths and Philosophy and will study philosophy at Durham next year.

Rose Sutherland was successful in gaining a highly sought place at Edinburgh University studying Art following her success in Art & Design, English Literature and History where she gained A*, A and B grades.

Molly White’s A* and two A grades in Mathematics, History and Biology gained her a place at Bristol studying Law and Jessica Watts is moving to Cardiff to study History and Philosophy having gained an A* in Philosophy and A grades in both History and Geography.

Rob Crocker, director of Sixth Form, said: “It was a privilege for staff and friends of the College to be able to celebrate their successes with students as they arrived to collect their examination results.

“The satisfaction and pride shown on the day reflected the fantastic spirit, commitment and motivation of the students, the phenomenal hard work and dedication of teaching staff and the tireless support of all the families in ensuring each student achieves their full potential.

“The college wish all departing students well as they move on to the next exciting phase of their lives and hope that they continue to succeed in all that they do.”

“The Employability Certificate can be instrumental in getting participants ready to be part of a workforce.

“We can assist with identifying skills and strengths and help you plot your action plan. Our Advisors are always on hand to give personalised guidance and help identify your options, whether that is help with getting into training, apprenticeships, full/part time employment, education, volunteering, to accessing grants and so much more.

“Help with writing CVs and job applications, learning interview techniques we provide so much more including training in ‘soft skills’ such as communication and team work through to nationally recognised qualifications, giving young people the confidence they need to achieve success.”
