KINGSBRIDGE Community College has appointed Kenny Duncan as principal to work alongside Roger Pope in his role as Executive Principal.
Mr Duncan has been Principal of Sidmouth College for the last four years, and was previously deputy head of Ralph Allen School in Bath, where he moved from his post as Assistant Principal of John Cabot Academy in Bristol. He lives in Devon with his family.
Mr Pope will take an overview of the schools in the growing Multi-Academy Trust and support Mr Duncan in his day-to-day running of the College.
Mr Duncan said: ‘Born and brought up in central Scotland near the city of Glasgow I qualified as a Design and Technology teacher having completed my teacher training in Edinburgh.
‘Throughout my teaching career I have lived and worked in the South West of England, teaching in good and outstanding schools in South Gloucestershire, Bristol, Cheltenham and Bath before moving to take up my current role as Principal of Sidmouth College in 2012.
‘I have one son, Euan, who is 24, and I enjoy a range of outdoor activities including windsurfing, paddle boarding and cycling. I also regularly get out walking on Dartmoor where I am actively involved in training and preparing students to take part in the annual Ten Tors Challenge.
‘I am delighted and feel very privileged to have been appointed to the post of Principal of Kingsbridge Community College. My partner Nerys and I are now keen to get to know the area around Kingsbridge as much as possible over the next few months before I take up the post in September. ‘What attracted me to Kingsbridge Community College was its reputation as a highly successful school with a national reputation for excellence and achievement, the strong and vibrant and local community within which the school is set and, of course, the exceptional and highly motivated students who are clearly able to achieve at the very highest level.
‘I now look forward to playing an influential role in ensuring the continued success of the college.’
Mr Pope said: ‘We were determined to strengthen our team with a person who shares our values, and has the attributes and experience to take us forward to the next phase of development. I look forward to working with Kenny!’
Chairman of Governors, Jeremy Fothergill, said: ‘We are delighted to have appointed someone of such wide and varied experience as Mr Duncan. He and Mr Pope will form a very strong team to take the College into its next phase of development’.
