THE governing body of Kingsbridge Community College is looking to co-opt new members.

A spokesman for KCC said: ‘School governors are responsible for both the conduct of the school and for promoting high standards. They set the vision for the school and then ensuring that the school works efficiently and effectively towards achieving its vision.

‘They do this by building a thorough knowledge of the school and its community, by both supporting and constructively challenging the school, and by ensuring accountability and compliance. The governing body of KCC is made up of both parent and staff governors.’

Governors do not need to be experts in the field of education, but they do need an interest in the college and in the welfare of the students and the time and willingness to get involved.

‘The skills you have can be very useful to the governing body. Governors need what are known as ‘soft skills’ – the ability to be able to build relationships with a range of people, to be able to work as part of a team, to be able to question, and to make connections between different types of information.

‘All governors are expected to be able to read straightforward budget reports and data on school standards.’

If you are interested in finding out more about becoming a governor, there will be an opportunity to have a cup of tea and meet existing governors at 4.30pm on Monday, February 1, n the college library. Bring a copy of your CV with you.

The Clerk to the Governors, Lis Collard, is happy to talk with you in advance about what is involved. You can contact her at KCC on: 01548 852641 ext 103.
