THURLESTONE Primary School recently received a visit from Google and Parentzone to promote online safety.
The event was also attended by Dr Sarah Wollaston MP, and marked the end of national anti-bullying week.
Thurlestone Primary School is one of only seven schools in the country to be chosen for the multimedia event - which took about seven hours to setup in the school’s assembly hall. Thurlestone was chosen due to the school’s high Information and Communications Technology marks.
The pupils were taught the ‘legend’s code’, pitched as a ‘Green Cross Code for the internet generation.’ The code explains how to stay ‘safe and epic online’ and uses the mnemonic RCPT, which stands for respect, check, protect and think.
The children were given large foam hands to answer questions. One side was red for ‘no’ and the other side green for ‘yes.’
The pupils were then asked questions, such as ‘would you give your personal details to someone online?’ and were encouraged to give a ’yes or no’ answer with the foam hands.
Issy from Year 6 said: ‘I think the overall presentation was amazing and I would give it five stars for fun, information and lots more. But one thing I wish could have happened was that we could have kept the foam hands.’
