East Allington Fete has had its opening time brought, so as not to clash with England’s World Cup match against Sweden.

East Allington’s annual village fete in aid of St Andrew’s Church will take place tomorrow.

Held on Saturday, July 7, the event will start at noon, rather than 2pm as previously advised.

The church and its neighbouring field will be filled with over 20 stalls, games and activities to tempt, challenge and entertain all ages. Parking and entry are free.

Visitors can look forward to a variety of classic sideshow games, raffles, a bouncy castle and storytelling, and will have the chance to meet a bird of prey.

Back by popular demand, local band Blurred Vision will perform live, playing a mix of rock and pop covers from the 1960s to the present day. A barbecue, Pimms tent, pasties, ice-creams, teas and cakes will keep visitors fed and watered throughout the afternoon.

A dog show judged by Selworthy Veterinary Group will take place at 2.30pm. Classes include best male, best female, best young handler Primary School age), dog with the waggiest tail and dog the judge would most like to take home. Entry on the day is just £1 per class.

A series of fun sports events for kids – including egg and spoon, skipping, 3-legged and sack races – will start at 3.30pm.

Parachuting teddy bears will take to the skies at 4.30pm. Children are encouraged to bring along a teddy (or other cuddly toy) and make their very own custom parachute before watching from the ground as their toys bravely skydive off the church tower.

Raffle tickets will be available to buy on the day and can also be purchased in advance at East Allington village shop and the Fortescue Arms. Top prizes include £100 cash, Sunday lunch for two at the Fortescue Arms, and a half case of wine.
