Gary Edgecombe, of Camperdown Road, Salcombe, writes: Well, surprise, surprise. A month after I raised the issue of parking regarding builders, it seems new legislation is pending allowing tradespeople to park in resident-only spaces, which can only add to the chaos already evident during a typical Salcombe summer. No wonder my queries were met with a 'no comment': Devon County Council had this in store for us and decided silence was the best course. These people beggar belief. The proposed legislation is unacceptable, and fortunately for Salcombe residents, also illegal. Independently of any subsequent inquiry, we intend to submit these ludicrous proposals to judicial review. It's surely clear to everyone that the consequences of allowing this legislation to proceed can only signal further traffic misery in Salcombe. We've also noted the deafening silence from the 'caring' Sarah Wollaston, who is hoping to be re-elected. She obviously doesn't see any votes in the issue, ergo no mileage in intervention. Hey-ho... that's a Tory politician for you. In the meantime, you might want to pave over your front garden – a car port is beginning to look rather desirable.
