South Hams District Council’s proposed Kingsbridge quay development seems to be yet another example of where the council’s senior executive has instructed its team and consultants to “sweat every council asset” for as much revenue as possible.

Sadly the top tier of the council has lost sight of its “duty and responsibility of care” for many different aspects of South Hams life in the ruthless and in some cases totally misguided pursuit of revenue generation ideas and cost savings.

The executive has also created an unhealthy “fear of firing” environment within the staff of council.

Our elected councillors urgently need to regain control of the council, insisting on a more balanced course and, if necessary, use some of the council’s substantial financial reserve to properly fund and manage both the human and material assets of this strategically important and beautiful part of Devon.
