SALCOMBE’S Cliff House received £2,000 in donations from their local councillor and the town council.
South Hams District and Devon County Councillor Rufus Gilbert donated £1,000 and promised another £1,000 from his funds and Salcombe Town Council donated £1,000.
David Stevens, chairman of Cliff House Trust, explained that the money would be used for repairs and work that the building needed. ‘We need about £50,000’, said David, ‘£32,000 for the corridors, roof and floors, and the front of the hotel needs painting which costa round £20,000. Then there’s the routine repairs to the guttering, plumbing, cracks etc.’
Tania Thompson, operations director at Cliff House, said: ‘We’re here for the community, we are the village hall of Salcombe - its where the library is, the town council, the harbour board, and the yacht club meet, and we can be rented for weddings, private parties, plays and pantos. We can usually cater for anything, we have a stage and a gantry so we’re very flexible.’
Cliff House offers concession rates for charities and local organisations and is in the process of applying for National Lottery finding. If you would like to donate, visit the website: www.cliffhousesalcombe.co.uk and click on ‘Become a friend of Cliff House’.
