Kingsbridge LETS – local exchange and trading – has been trading for 21 years in Kingsbridge.

A cheery coming of age anniversary AGM took place in Harbour House recently with 20 people present from the 38 active members who trade together.

Lets exists in many cities in the UK and abroad. Other Lets groups in the area have folded but Kingsbridge is a strong and supportive community of members who trade regularly. New members are always very welcome.

On joining you are given a special Bridges cheque book and the list of members with their numerous offers of services and goods.

Skills and help are offered in all areas - practical, administrative, domestic, care work, accommodation, therapies and artistic. Goods and items are for loan or sale. The list is long.

You can offer any service either as a professional or an amateur. People often don’t join because they can’t think what to offer, but there is always something you have to give.

You can offer on an amateur level and can be a way of trying something out you’ve never done before, like giving advice on your area of knowledge or selling something or giving support in some way.

Unlike money, you don’t get fined if you go into debt as the most important thing is to trade.

My experience of Lets trading is about meeting people and good communication with the satisfaction of getting that job done by a friendly person.
