A South Hams business has reached the finals of the greeting card retailer awards, The Retas.

Occasional Cards and Party Shop in Kingsbridge has been named as one of the six shops in the UK to reach the finals of the awards, which seek to “recognise and reward the UK’s very best greeting card retailers from right across the retail spectrum”.

Jayne Brooking owns the shop with her husband Kevin, and said that the award was special because they were nominated by their reps and suppliers.

She said: “We have taken the business from where it was to where it is now, we pride ourselves on our customer service and we have worked hard to build our range.

“It was amazing to hear that we made it to the finals, we receive the Progressive Greetings magazine [who run The Retas] every month and we didn’t know we were being put forward for it,

“All our hard work has paid off, but we weren’t expecting it!”

The winners will be decided by a panel of experts and will be revealed at an awards lunch in London on Wednesday, July 11.
