DEVON County Council chose half term week to undertake road re-surfacing works on both roads into Bantham.

People have reported being stuck for over an hour while the road was resurfaced on Tuesday, May 31, during half term week.

When asked why they chose the half term week to work on both the roads to the busiest surfing beach in South Devon, a Devon County Council spokesman said: ‘The timing for this work was planned so it would be completed ahead of the main holiday period during July and August.

‘Our contractors needed to dress the road under the best possible conditions as the process is weather dependent.

‘Efforts were made to minimise the duration of the works and to lessen the impact of the work, but some disruption was unavoidable.

‘The works were completed on Tuesday and the associated traffic management has now been removed.’
