I am puzzled as to the relevance of the Irish abortion referendum to readers.
If such issues are covered, however, perhaps the paper should publish letters representing both views – even the views of “so-called liberals disguised as feminists”, whatever they may be.
Mr AG Waring, Letters, Friday, June 1, is worrying too much about the effects of abortion. The Abortion Act was passed in this country over 50 years ago and I am not aware that euthanasia is yet being used at all here, let alone for social cleansing.
Furthermore, his maths don’t add up – 200,000 abortions do not equate to a loss in the population of 200,000 future carers.
It is perfectly possible for a woman to have an abortion, for whatever reason, and then go on to have further children.
An abortion will not of itself alter the number of children she wishes to have. It does mean she gets to choose when she has a baby, though.
I trust this puts Mr Waring’s mind at rest.
