A café that has provided a haven and a refuge for hundreds of holidaymakers and locals alike during this year’s on/off summer is closing its doors for the final time tomorrow.
The Bay View Café, Bigbury-on-sea run by Craig Worthing-ton, employs 20 local members of staff and has fed people in the area for 200 years.
But their lease is being terminated on Saturday as the café and the adjoining house is being sold to developers.
‘I want very much to say thank you to all our friends, customers and suppliers who have supported us in the last six years and helped us achieve what we have.’
Craig and his team have achieved a lot with the Bay View Café – they fed over a hundred people a day over the summer, with one day managing over 200 covers.
‘We’ve had a bonkers busy summer’, said Craig, ‘lots of people are sad about it, but I totally understand the landlord’s need to move on. It’s a shame. So far Bigbury-on-Sea has lost its shop, post office, the Royal Oak pub – there is only the Venus Café left now and that only does takeaway.’
