The Dave Sharp Young Musicians Fund is on the look out for talented and passionate young musicians to join their ranks.

The DYSMF hold music workshops which give young musicians the opportunity to perform in a group which has led to many participants performing live.

Venues where this has taken place include Music Monster Mash in Malborough, Fair week and other festivals and music venues.

Money for the fund is raised through the Music Monster Mash which has been held in Malborough for the last nine years with the 10th Mash being held next summer.

The proceeds are split four ways, between DSYMF, St Lukes Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support and locally to The Triangle Centre, who are there to help cancer patients and their families navigate through their treatment and recovery closer to home.

Martin Cording, a representative from the fund has said: “We currently have the opportunity for young musicians aged 12-18 to come and join these sessions.

“The workshops are aimed at budding vocalists, instrumentalists and percussionists who want to perform in a group.

“We ask that any beginners wishing to join have already learned the basic fundamental skills on their instrument.

“The sessions are run by experienced music teachers and are completely free of charge.”

The Dave Sharp Young Musicians Fund was set up in 2011 in memory of Dave Sharp who was a regular in the local music scene.

He asked for the Music Monster Mash to continue to help support local music; his family decided therefore to create the fund in Dave’s memory with the view of helping the next generation of budding musicians.
