A MATTRESS that caught fire was pushed out of a bedroom window in Thurlestone last night, to avoid a blaze.

Kingsbridge Fire crew was called to the address in Thurlestone after a faulty electric blanket ignited. When the crew arrived, the occupants had pushed the burning mattress out of the window.

The fire crews made the scene safe and advised people to check their electric blankets before they use them, and only leave them on when in bed if it is specifically designed to be used like that.
