The weather was no respecter of the milestone 130th annual Yealmpton Show, as Wednesday dawned with decidedly grey skies.

The event is one of the biggest in the South Hams’ calendar and sees farmers, exhibitors, traders, residents and visitors gathering for a day of fun at Kitley lawns.

And although the morning was definitely not fun in the sun, the afternoon promised an improvement in conditions.

First thing in the morning show secretary Paul Davis was confident things would improve. He said: "It’s going to stop raining at 11.32am exactly, or so I’ve been told anyway."

An exhibitor added: "It’s perfect show weather - too wet for the beach."

The show featured a huge range of livestock classes drawing farmers and enthusiasts from across Devon and even further afield, as well as riding and entertainments of all kind. Huge marquees were filled with stalls from food and drink producers, craftmakers, charities, traditional rural skills organisations and local history experts.

The show is held each year by kind permission of landowners the Bastard family.
