A THURLESTONE Primary School student was inspired to help those less fortunate than her after a cold winter walk.

Annabel Hewitt, 10, was walking her dog Barney with her mum in bad weather and she realised how hard it must be to be homeless in this kind of weather.

‘We were walking Barney at Bantham,’ said Annabel, ‘and it was really wet, windy and hailing. I spoke to mum about it and she told me I should do something, so we are.’

Annabel has roped in her two friends Yasmin Nixon and Lily Watson, as well as most of the Year 6 group, to hold a cake sale on Tuesday, January 26, at the school.

‘A whole team offered to help,’ said Annabel, ‘people are making cakes and biscuits, we should have more than 200 and we want to raise at least £100.’

There will be a session for the pupils at lunchtime at All Saints Primary School in Thurlestone, and one after school at 3.30pm for all the parents, teachers and friends.

The money raised will be donated to Shelter, which helps people with poor housing and homelessness. Annabel said she chose this charity because ‘it looked like the best and they help people in the UK’.
