Team Astro to Atlantic held a Caribbean Ball fundraiser on Saturday night in aid of their Atlantic campaign and their chosen charity, the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.
With just seven months until race start, the team have been busy preparing for this event and other upcoming fundraisers to ensure they are able to purchase all their safety equipment ready for the start line in December.
The evening was held at Malborough Village Hall which was beautifully lined by Hatch Marquees and guests were welcomed into the Caribbean atmosphere with flower leis, a steel band and rum punch on arrival.
The Astro to Atlantic Team will be completing their challenge by rowing into Antigua next January so were keen to promote their Caribbean theme.
One of the team, Chloe Harvey, said: “A delicious three-course meal was enjoyed by 100 guests cooked by Elaine Day Entertaining Food and a scrumptious brownie pudding was kindly donated by The Bake House Salcombe.
“A raffle was held in aid of our chosen charity, the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and an auction by Stuart Hext of Luscombe Maye, which was very exciting to be a part of. We would like to thank all those competitive bidders! Then followed the live music by Riptide who got everyone up dancing the night away!
“It was a fantastic evening, one which the team will never forget.”
Astro to Atlantic would like to thank “everyone who supported the event, particularly the support crew behind the scenes”, many being their hockey teammates who they “could not have pulled off” the event without.
Adding a “huge thank you” to all the amazing local businesses who supported the event, assisting with venue decorations, raffle and auction prizes and helping to promote the team and their challenge.
For more upcoming events you can follow the team’s social media pages @astrotoatlantic – next is their rescheduled Bingo Night at Malborough Village Hall on Friday, June 1, and they are also hosting a Gin Party on Saturday, June 30, but for now the team are getting back to routine training on the water!
