THE Surfers Against Sewage ‘big spring beach clean’ saw 47 volunteers cleaning the beach at Bigbury on Saturday, April 16.

Zoe Woodman from Surfers Against Sewage explained: ‘Our beautiful countryside and coastline are constantly under attack from the blight of rubbish.

‘Luckily we work hard to keep the problem of coastal water quality and beach litter under control.

‘Each spring and autumn we rally supporters to initiate and supervise group clean up sessions.

‘The ages of these caring individuals ranged from four months to over 60, with a large number of youngsters all eager and willing to make a difference.

‘The rubbish collected included a melted black bin encrusted with necklace beads, a large quantity of fishing debris - including four barbed fish hooks, crisp packets, chocolate wrappers and the remains of a ’take your letter home’ sign.’

Zoe added: ‘Grateful thanks go to all the wonderful people who worked hard for two hours to make the beach a cleaner and safer place for us all.’
