Slimming World’s favourite day of the year is coming up, and everyone is invited to come and support a good cause.
To celebrate their amazing weight loss, slimmers in Kingsbridge are donating their now too-big clothes to charity for their annual event, the Kingsbridge Slimmers Clothes Throw.
As part of a national campaign, members of the Kingsbridge Slimming World groups are being invited to donate their clothes, shoes, bags and accessories they no longer need to cancer research with a bag collection and jumble sale in the Kingsbridge Bandstand on Saturday, May 26 from 10am to 2pm.
The slimmers, who meet every week, hope to beat last year’s record of over 120 bags. Each bag is worth £25 to Cancer Research UK. The Clothes Throw is one of the most favoured events in the Slimming World calendar and is the fifth year the Kingsbridge groups have held it.
Heather Gillard, consultant for the Mill Club Kingsbridge Slimmers said: “It’s such a liberating feeling having the confidence to bag up clothes you’ll never fit into again, all while raising money for an extremely important cause. The members can’t wait to make room for a new summer wardrobe by taking part.
“When we meet each week we laugh together, share challenges and tips for overcoming them, celebrate success and swap inspiration, tips and recipes. We really are one big family and I will be so proud to see them say goodbye to those larger sizes and set targets for enjoying a healthier holiday season feeling absolutely fantastic.”
The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw is taking place in all 18,000 Slimming World groups across the UK and Ireland in May. Last year the campaign raised £3.3million.
As well as fundraising, Slimming World also aims to raise awareness of the links between obesity and cancer, which is why they’ve chosen Cancer Research UK to support.Obesity is the biggest cause of cancer after smoking, but only 15 per cent of people are aware of the link. Being overweight or obese increases your risk of developing 13 different types of cancer, including bowel, kidney and breast cancer.
