The Salcombe Players are in final rehearsals for their summer production, ‘No Woman Is An Island’ by local writer Malcolm MacIntosh, and directed by Christine Bonner.
The play is in monologue form, along the lines of Alan Bennett’s ‘Talking Heads’. It follows the fortunes of five women as they tell of their loves, their fears, their hopes and their dreams.
The women, who range from 25-85, couldn’t be more different: a po-faced middle aged woman who works in a department store; a lovelorn lady unhappy with her husband; a timid woman who has lost her self-confidence; a pretty young bus driver; and an elderly lady who tries to keep herself busy.
At first it seems they have nothing in common but as the strands of the play unravel, it becomes apparent that they have connections with each other in unexpected ways.
Salcombe Players’ stalwarts Jackie Hodges, Lindy Sinnott, Wendy Read and Wendy Morrall are joined by Sarah Montague. Sarah has performed with several local Groups including MAD, KATS and TOADS.
‘No Woman Is An Island’ promises amusing and thought-provoking entertainment and will run, for two nights only, at Cliff House, Salcombe, on August 21 and 22, at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the Salcombe TIC.
Salcombe Players’ secretary Christine Bonner says: “Don’t forget to also look out for our pantomime, Cinderella between December 7-9, 2017. All proceeds as usual to Salcombe Swimming Pool Association.
“If you are six or over and would like to join us either on the stage or behind the scenes please contact me for further information at [email protected] or on 01548 843243. We can promise you a lot of fun.”
