LOCAL man David Searle is organising a 10K ‘freedom run’ in Malborough in aid of Unseen, an anti-trafficking charity.

The event, which is one of many being held around the country, is being organised by TRIBE, a running company, and David volunteered to be a leader for Malborough.

‘It was set up by TRIBE, and they were looking for 30 ambassadors around the country to lead either a run or bike ride to raise money for human trafficking’ explained David. ‘I like running and getting people involved and obviously human trafficking is a huge issue that has been in the public consciousness of late so thought I would apply to lead a run.’

Unseen states on their website that ‘modern slavery is real. It is happening in our communities. An unseen crime, it hides in take-aways, hotels, car washes, nail bars and private homes.

‘The Home Office predicts that there may be as many as 13,000 victims in the UK alone. There is no typical victim of slavery. Victims can be men, women and children of all ages and cut across the population, but it is normally more prevalent amongst the most vulnerable, minority or socially excluded groups.

‘We at Unseen echo the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948, which states that: “No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms”.’

The freedom run will take place on Saturday, December 10, meeting at Malborough Village Hall at 3pm.
